King Edward VIII and his wife, Duchess Wallis Simpson

His Majesty King Edward VIII and his American wife Duchess Wallis Simpson passed through Portal on two occasions as they traveled to visit the E.P. Ranch near Pekisko, Alberta.

King Edward abdicated in December 1936 in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. King Edward sold the E.P. Ranch in 1962.

The photo was taken at the Soo Line Depot, Portal, ND or across the border in North Portal, Saskatchewan. The photo was possibly taken by Alan Davis of North Portal and was donated by his granddaughter, Lauren Packer.
